LG Professionals Tasmania is your member association and leading voice for Local Government professionals in Tasmania providing leadership, professional development and representation in the pursuit of excellence. Our members are a community of professionals aspiring to shape the sector and make a difference in their Local Government career.
We are committed to ensuring that our members are supported by sector specific professional development to help them in their work and to progress their career, develop strong networks with sector leaders and that our member interests are represented by a credible and independent voice and ensure that our members are an integral part of the bigger picture.

Who should join?
Individual Membership is taken up by professionals working in Local Government in Tasmania or individuals who have a keen interest in staying up to date with developments within the Local Government sector.
No matter what level you are at, with LG Professionals Tasmania you are able to gain another perspective of the sector as a whole.
Our Excellence Awards recognises managers and aspiring managers in Local Government in Tasmania whose contribution is worthy of special acknowledgement. LG Professionals Tasmania Members and Fellows are also eligible to use postnominals.
We also offer a Scholarship for two young members working in Local Government to attend the LG Professionals Australia National Congress each year.
We have a range of programs specifically designed to develop our emerging leaders. Our Mentoring Program will pair you up with one of our senior members; our biennial Emerging Leaders Program delivered by UTAS, will enable you to examine topics and areas critical to local government with a small group of your peers; and our Management Challenge Program will provide you with the opportunity to participate in Australia and New Zealand’s premier Local Government development program designed to deliver personal, team and organisational professional development.
Our member community is made up of over 200 Local Government Professionals, including the majority of General Managers and a large proportion of senior managers from each Council. By coming along to one of our events and networking opportunities, you will be mixing with the current and future leaders of Local Government in Tasmania.
You can participate in a range of professional development activities which include national and state conferences, international programs, topical issues forums and networking at Tasmanian branch meetings. This ensures you stay up to date on current issues as well as developing strong networks with local government colleagues. We also convene a number of Special Interest Groups which provide Local Government employees working in similar fields with a valuable opportunity to network, share best practice and to learn about the latest trends and developments.
LG Professionals Tasmania offers an independent and credible voice on issues of importance to our members. Through your membership you can contribute to submissions made to Government and other key stakeholders in representing the professional officer perspective.
Along with voting rights at the AGM and general meetings you can also nominate for election to the LG Processionals Tasmania board and help shape our organisation for the benefit of the sector.
