The annual scholarship is open to emerging local government leaders, committed to advancing the profession of local government to build better communities.
Raymond West was a municipal officer working in Victoria who first brought his local government colleagues together in 1936. Since that first meeting, the Local Government Professionals federation has grown to become the peak body representing the sector, with representation in every state and territory in Australia, and a national office working at the federal and international level. This scholarship is named in his honour.
Annually, two young Tasmanians working in local government are given the opportunity to attend the LG Professional’s National Congress in the latter part of the year.
This scholarship will not be provided in 2020.
